Development Completed of Web Constructor 3.8Since being launched (Fall 2002), the Web Constructor has changed and improved considerably and got new modules. It used to be like a house with numerous outdated extensions and superstructures, which, though implementing their functions, confused the whole architecture and impeded any new construction. So were we: we could not use some functions in the modules as not supported by the kernel. Therefore the decision was made to rewrite the kernel of the Web Constructor from bottom-line. The absolutely new Web Constructor has all the advantages of its predecessor plus simplified writing and introducing for new modules. For Web site editors we have developed something useful and looked-for — Inline Editing, special editing mode for Web sites. You could use it to open and edit the documents right from the Web site after starting your Web Constructor.
Only the editor can see “Edit” link next to each Web-site object to be edited. This mode is useful for saving your time while searching through the document to be edited. Web Constructor has pretty well-shaped and logical system of documents, and finding anything is not a problem at all. However, if there is only one letter to be corrected and the Web site is overloaded with data, then Inline Editing will be absolutely irreplaceable. Besides: We speeded up by 5 times the installation process for the Web Constructor. The Web Constructor had to be installed manually previously. From now on, the installation requires only unpacking an archive, entering a system and filling in a form. The Web Constructor will start the installation by itself. The installation, which used to require approx. 10-15 minutes manually, now only takes 2-3 minutes. Though time advantage is minor, the automated installation excludes any mistakes probable with manual installation. We highlighted the syntax of HTML, PHP, XML and JavaScript. Now we expect the programmers would feel less tiresome as was the case with monochromatic programming code.
We protected our contact forms against robots by using CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing Test To Tell Computers And Humans Apart). Sending a message from our Web sites is disallowed for computers and requires keying in certain symbols from the picture.
No text to be inserted here We learned to cash PHP-code blocks (e.g. menu, footer and site map) and entire pages. The productivity rose by 20-30% in the first case and by 50-1,000% in the second one, subject to page complexity: the higher the complexity the higher the productivity. The above improvements would be helpful for Web site developers, using the Web Constructor. Totally more than 60 new functionalities, improvements and corrections have been introduced while updating Web Constructor 3.8 as well as 6 new icons painted.
